Annandale

Established 1836 | Reborn 2014 – The Annandale distillery doesn’t shy away from its interesting history, rather choosing to own it as their ethos. Nearly 2 centuries ago, the establishment rooted itself into Lowland history alongside its peer Bladnoch whisky, as the two principal distilleries of Southern Scotland. However, in 1921 the distillery would have to halt its short but supple whisky production.

Almost 90 years later, Teresa Church and David Thompson stumbled across the dilapidated, decayed detritus of Annandale – gauging an opportunity in it. Teresa’s vision allowed them to rediscover the innate beauty of the historic buildings, while David and his old pal Dr. Jim Swan created a unique sensory palette for their 2 single malt expressions. Christened “Man O’ Words” and “Man O’ Swords”, they’re named after iconic Scottish Roberts, Burns and The Bruce respectively.

In November 2014, the Annandale Visitor Centre opened and the first casks were distilled. The first cask of unpeated whisky made the news and was put up for sale for a staggering £1million.
