Balvenie was built on a 12 acre site adjacent to Glenfiddich in the year 1892. The whisky produced in the distillery was primarily used for the Grant’s Standfast blend until 1973.
In 1993, Balvenie becomes one of the first distilleries to finish a single malt in a different cask with the launch of Doublewood which was first aged in ex-Bourbon casks before being given a short period of secondary maturation in ex-Sherry. This was introduced by David Stewart, and to celebrate David’s 30th anniversary in the distillery, The Balvenie Thirty-Year Old whisky was released in 2004.
