Founded in 1825 by ‘Long John’ McDonald, a descendant of a ruler of the western Scottish kingdom of Argyll (after whom the renowned blended Scotch, Long John, was named). Ben Nevis is situated at the base of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in British Isles, which rises to 1,345 m (4,413 ft) above sea level.
The distillery in currently owned by Asahi Group Holdings which operates a number of distilleries in Japan – Yoichi distillery (established in 1934), Nikka Whisky Distilling Co. Ltd (1934) and Miyagikyo distillery (established in 1969).
