The Southernmost active distillery of Scotland, lavishly languishes along the bright meadows of the shore of the river it is named after. Gaelic for a “place of flowers”, it is an apt name for what was once founded as a farming distillery, sourcing barley from its expansive surrounding fields. It also bears the prestigious title of Scotland’s oldest privately owned distillery, still functioning today.
Sourcing water from the local lake, Loch Ma Berry, Bladnoch distils its spirits in two unique stills fitted with reflux bowls above their intermediate piece to separate the alcohol better and create a smoother taste. The rather flat warehouses of the distillery combined with the Southern Scottish climate, lets the whisky mature in a leisurely way, bestowing the dram its unique taste.
Today under the leadership of veteran Australian businessman, David Prior and highly acclaimed Master Distiller, Dr. Nick Savage (previously Master Distiller of Macallan), Bladnoch produces a number of extraordinary single malts, deserving of the high accolades it boasts. In 2022, the distillery was the recepient of Queen’s Award for Enterprise.
