The distillery was founded in 1881 near Port Askaig on Islay which smacks of the confidence of the Victorian period. While other Islay distilleries sold their make as single malts and for blending, Bunna’s destiny was always with the latter. While it was used across the industry, it performed a central role in three R&B blends: Famous Grouse, Cutty Sark and, in time, Black Bottle.
The whisky produced at the distillery is less peaty and more citrusy than its neighbors. High quality Bunnahabhain casks have increased in popularity over the last few years in the cask investment segment, becoming one of the best choices for investors looking for steady growth.
The current owner of Bunnahabhain, Distell group announced a 3-year upgradation program with a total investment of £11 million which will house a new visitor centre. The upgradation work started in 2019.
