Scapa

Founded in 1885 by Macfarlane & Townsend, the distillery is the second-northernmost whisky distillery in Scotland, 800 meters south of the Highland Park distillery.

The distillery was almost destroyed by fire in 1919 but was saved by nearby sailors of the remaining Grand Fleet forming a human chain carrying buckets of sea water to extinguish the fire. In 1994, the distillery was mothballed, and faced definitive closure in 2004. A £ 2.1 million refurbishment project took place in 2004 at the distillery and it was completed by 2005 by the previous owners Allied distillers. In 2005, ownership passed to Pernod Ricard and full production recommenced in October 2005.

The 14 year old expression of the Scapa has won various international awards.
