In 1830, Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill rowed across the Atlantic Ocean from the Isle of Eigg to the Isle of Skye – driven by one true purpose, single malt scotch whisky. The brothers leased out the Talisker House, laying the foundation for Talisker Distillery. Despite such passion, the remote distillery was an insurmountable challenge for the MacAskill brothers and their successors.
It wasn’t until 1880, when whisky entrepreneurs Roderick Kemp and Alexander Allen took over the reins of Talisker and guided it to its deserved heights. Over the next few years, Talisker would merge with Dailuaine and Imperial, before being taken over by a grouping of major blenders including John Walker & Sons and John Dewar. These firms and distilleries later merged and morphed into the global spirit giant, Diageo.
Since then, Talisker has switched from triple to double distillation, survived an engorging fire, and been rebuilt with a new mashtun and worm tubs – offering a spirit perfected over nearly 2 centuries.
